Changeling

Privacy Policy

Effective and last updated: July 21, 2026

Short version: Changeling works locally in your browser.

The extension does not send your browsing activity, page content, or edits to Toadstool Labs LLC or anyone else. It has no account, analytics, advertising, tracking, or external network requests.

About this policy

This policy applies only to the Changeling Chrome extension, provided by Toadstool Labs LLC, an Oregon limited liability company. The Growth Chicken website and services are covered by the separate Growth Chicken Privacy Policy.

What Changeling handles

Changeling's content script is available on ordinary HTTP and HTTPS webpages so editing can work wherever you choose. It uses each page's origin and path locally to look up saved changes, but it does not create or transmit a browsing history. When you open or enable Changeling on a page, the extension handles:

  • the active page's URL and title;
  • visible text you choose to edit;
  • the original and replacement text; and
  • element tags and CSS selectors used to identify each changed element.

Changeling uses this information only to make page text editable, remember your changes, show a change count, restore changes after the popup closes or the page reloads, and create the copy-change artifact you request.

Local storage and sharing

Changes are stored only on your device using chrome.storage.local, organized by page URL. Toadstool does not receive, collect, sell, rent, share, or use this information for advertising or any purpose outside the extension.

Changeling places an artifact on your clipboard or creates a local Markdown download only when you choose Copy or Download. What happens after you paste, upload, or share that artifact is controlled by you and the destination you select.

Browser permissions

  • Storage saves your changes locally so they remain available after closing the popup or reloading a page.
  • Active tab lets the popup identify the page where you invoked Changeling.
  • Website access makes Changeling available on HTTP and HTTPS webpages. It scans and temporarily edits visible text only after you enable edit mode.

Changeling uses these permissions only for its single purpose: editing webpage copy and exporting the changes.

Deleting local data

Choose Clear all changes in the Changeling popup to remove saved changes for the current page and restore its original text. Uninstalling Changeling removes its locally stored extension data from Chrome.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Changeling's use of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Policy changes

If Changeling's data practices change, we will update this page and its date before the change takes effect and provide any additional notice required by law or Chrome Web Store policy.
